OUR PARISH HISTORY

Mar Thoma members have been in existence in Kuwait since late 1940s. With the increase in members, there came the need to form a Mar Thoma Parish in 1963.

Thereafter, with the increase in members throughout all areas in Kuwait, came the need for organizing the Parish at regional levels for more effective ministry.

In January 1984, the Ahmadi Mar Thoma Church was formed out of Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish for the convenience of people living in Ahmadi/Fahaheel prayer group areas about 40 km away from Kuwait City. In April 2007, the St.Thomas Mar Thoma Church at Salmiya was formed out of Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish. On January 2011, the Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish was restructured into three independent Parishes - Kuwait St.James Mar Thoma Church, Kuwait St.Johns Mar Thoma Church and Kuwait St.Peters Mar Thoma Church; based on prayer group geographic zone as per the decision of the Episcopal Synod conveyed through the Kalpana of His Grace Most Rev. Dr.Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan. In May 2012, a Parish named Kuwait City Mar Thoma Church came into existence. Thus, there are 6 vibrant Mar Thoma Parishes with 6 Vicars in Kuwait now.

Year 2012 - 2013 was the GOLDEN JUBILEE YEAR for the MAR THOMA CHURCHES in Kuwait. Over the last 50 years, God blessed the Church abundantly to grow from a single Parish with one weekly service to six Parishes now celebrating 13 Holy Communion Services in a week at various locations in Kuwait.

Kuwait St.James Mar Thoma Church comprises of prayer groups from areas of Kuwait City, Salmiya, Hawally, Riggai, Abbasiya, Farwaniya, Khaithan & Mahboula.

The worship services are held regularly twice in a week in NECK compound in the heart of the Kuwait City. On Fridays, in the Hall of Faith, NECK at 7:30AM and on Saturdays, in the Hall of Peace, NECK at 7:30PM. On fourth Fridays, the service is conducted in the Church and Parish Hall, NECK at 8:15AM on rotation with other 3 Mar Thoma Churches.

Jesus Christ said,"You are the light of the world. (Matt 5:14). The Church is called to extend this mission to the world. And, we as children of God have been commissioned with a mission to lighten every place we are placed. We are committed to living our motto in our everyday lives. Though hailing from different parts of Kerala, here in Kuwait, under one roof, we are as one family serving the Almighty God.

As we continue our journey in this place where God has placed us, we move forward in humility and thanksgiving, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.' Heb 12:2.

God has lighted our path as we live in this soil. We march forward in faith, praying that our light will shine brightly in this place. May God continue to bless those here and also those were here in Kuwait before us and may we become a blessing to others. May God use each one of us to be a witness to the sacrificial love of God seen through Jesus Christ.
